Samsung is officially recalling the Galaxy Note 7 in Nigeria

Following recent combustion of the Samsung Note 7 devices arising from defective batteries, Samsung recently issued mass recalls. They also announced that sales and production of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be discontinued.

Although, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has not being officially announced in Nigeria, some Nigerians own it. There have been calls for the Samsung office in Nigeria to make an official statement addressing the device in the country.

In a press release by Samsung, the company has stated that they are working with regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7. They also highlighted the discontinuance of sales globally for safety concerns.
Recently, South African Airways was the latest airline to ban the Galaxy Note 7 on its flights for safety concerns. They first banned charging of the device on flights but later declared it unfit for flights.  According to Samsung, the company is committed to working diligently with appropriate regulatory authorities to take all necessary steps to resolve the situation.
However, consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device are advised to immediately switch off the devices and take advantage of the remedies available at Samsung Authorized Service Centres in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, users that have bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 — despite the original place of purchase — are kindly advised to visit the nearest Samsung Authorized Service Centre where they will be guided with available options and offered immediate assistance.

Samsung Nigeria also noted that those who have returned their Galaxy Note 7 will be contacted. Emmanouil Revmatas, Director and Business Leader, Information Mobile and Technology, Samsung Electronics West Africa apologized to customers who have been waiting to get the device.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to customers and partners who have trusted and waited for the Galaxy Note7,”
